Get to know Ryan!
We’ve asked Ryan some questions based on his experience so you can get to know the man behind the phone, or screen!
What inspired you to become an Asbestos Survey Advisor?
I’ve generally always had an interest in construction and safety – and Asbestos felt like a great route to go down, knowing how dangerous it can be to health, it gives a great satisfaction being able to play my part and prevent health risks.
Can you share the most challenging project you've worked on?
Sure! I would have to say it was an old factory, just outside of Birmingham, it had been abandoned for decades. There where so many tight spaces, everything was at a high level and asbestos was hidden everywhere, it took a lot of patience and planning to find all the issues.
What are the common misconceptions about asbestos?
The most frustrating thing I tend to hear is “it’s only a little bit of asbestos”, meaning that they don’t need to get it removed. It doesn’t take much to pose a significant risk to your health, small fibres when disturbed are just as dangerous.
What do you enjoy most about the job?
I’ve got to say it’s that every job is different. There’s always a new challenge, with a new type of property, it makes every day a constant learning process and keeps me engaged.
When you're not working, what do you do for fun?
Less of a serious one!
I love the outdoors, I may not look like it but I spend a lot of time walking and exploring nature trails with my family. I also love camping and cooking, although mostly that’s BBQ’ing in the outdoors!
